ELLEN RABINER OPERA REVIEWS Pasqualita
Doctor
Atomic The Netherlands
Opera The cast is uniformly
excellent. In a co-production of the San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera
and Netherlands Opera, Gerald Finley heads the field with a passionately
committed performance of Oppenheimer. But then the work of Eric Owens as
General Groves is stunning, as is that of Ellen Rabiner as Pasqualita. Classical Net Als die Indianishes
Dienstmadchen is die Altistin Ellen Rabiner ein Naturereignis. Klassik.com The Opus Arte DVD features
Sellars’ original staging, nimbly conducted by Laurence Renes, played with
feeling by the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and brilliantly sung by
Finley, Owens, Fink, Glenn and–most impressively–Jennifer Rivera as Kitty and
Ellen Rabiner as Pasqualita, who both become the true heart of the opera.

Jersey Opera In recalling the
highlights of an operatic performance, one tends to focus on the two romantic
roles. But in this case we must center out enthusiasm on the performance of
Rabiner as Azucena. Hers was a riveting interpretation. Slight of stature but very
large in vocal and acting talent, Rabiner brought Azucena to life vividly
throughout the opera. Friday's audience greeted
Rabiner with a loud roar of approval, with many standees. The Times (New Jersey) Ellen
Rabiner, possessing an ample contralto, revealed the depths of Azucena's
vulnerability and despair, arousing intense empathy with her non-stereotypical
portrayal. American Record Guide Gaea
