Ellen Rabiner made her Metropolitan Opera debut
in 1994 in Elektra, and continues to appear regularly with the company. In recent seasons she
has sung Schwertleite in Die Walküre, die Kranke in Moses und Aron , and the Shepherdess in Jenufa. In 2008 she appears in Manon Lescaut. Other
roles with the company have included Sonyetka in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk , Matrioshka/Mavra in War and Peace and the Voice from Above in Die Frau ohne Schatten. She has also sung with the New York City Opera, including Kontchakovna in Prince Igor and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly. In 2007 she made her Netherlands Opera debut as Pasqualita in
the European premiere of Dr. Atomic.
Other opera highlights include Erda in Das Rheingold with the San Francisco Opera, Kontchakovna in Prince Igor with L'Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg, the title role in Carmen with New Hampshire's Granite State Opera , Gaea in Daphne with the Santa Fe Opera, Amneris in Aida in Kosice, Slovakia, and Azucena in Il Trovatore in New Jersey and West Virginia. She has also sung with the opera companies of Washington D.C., Dallas, Seattle, Michigan,
Nashville, and San Diego. Roles have included Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri, Annina in Der Rosenkavalier and Mary in Der Fliegender
Holländer.
Recent operatic engagements included a return to the
Met in Elektra, an operetta debut as Katisha in San Antonio's production of The Mikado, debuts at Switzerland's Verbier Festival and Tokyo's Opera Nomuri in Elektra
, a return to Granite State Opera as Maddalena in Rigoletto, and Mahler's Symphony #2 with the North Czech Philharmonic and a song recital
in Prague. In 2007 she returns to the Czech Republic as Carmen in the outdoor festival in Hradec Kralove, and in 2008 she debuts in Poland
as Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana.
Ellen can be heard in the Grammy-nominated Telarc recording of the Bach Mass in B minor
and in the Harmonia Mundi release of Dido and Aeneas with Nicholas McGegan and the Philharmonia Baroque.
Ellen's concert performances have
ranged from title roles in Vivaldi's Tamerlano and Arsilda in Alice Tully Hall with the Little Orchestra Society to Klytaemnestra
in Elektra with Deutsche Oper New York. Recent seasons have included Alexander
Nevsky with the Columbus Symphony, Mahler's 3d Symphony with the Pacific Symphony, Brahms' Alto
Rhapsody with the Thunder Bay Symphony in Ontario, El Amor Brujo with the Fresno Philharmonic and Mahler's Rückert Lieder with the New York Chamber Orchestra.
Ellen appears regularly in Baroque and
Classical repertoire, including Bach's B minor mass at
the Baldwin-Wallace Bach Festival, Mozart's Requiem with the Choral Arts Society in
the Kennedy Center, Bach's Magnificat with the Phoenix Symphony, Beethoven's Symphony no. 9 with the San Antonio Symphony and in Avery Fisher Hall with the National Chorale.
In the 2003-4 season Ellen
returned to the Kennedy Center for the Durufle Requiem, to the Baldwin-Wallace Festival
for Bach's Weinacht's Oratorium and Handel's "Mi palpita il cor",and to Avery Fisher Hall for Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Theresienmesse. She also performed in recital with pianist David Triestram in New Hampshire under the auspices of the Granite State Opera,
and in Prague's Spanish Synagogue in conjunction with the Three Rings Festival. In 2006 she returned to Baldwin-Wallace for
Bach's Magnificat and St. John Passion, and debuts
with the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra in Elektra and with the Boston Symphony in Moses und Aron . In 2007 she debuts with the Cleveland Orchestra in Handel's Messiah
and Vivaldi's Gloria.
Ellen Rabiner was born in
New York and educated at Harvard University and at the Indiana University School of Music.
